Best known for her appearance in Imitation of Life (1934), Black actress Fredi Washington was a prolific writer whose incisive commentary on film, theatre, labor, and race in the 1940s provides a keen look at media cultures of the time. This volume shares more than 300+ columns that Washington wrote for the Harlem newspaper The People's Voice between 1942 and 1948, when it ceased publication.
